STOP PRESS NEWS
Munns Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil has been awarded the British Assured Food Standard, to our knowledge the only product of it's type to carry this standard.
Extra Virgin, Cold-Pressed Rapeseed Oil
Munns Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil is extracted from the seed by a method known as cold pressing which involves the seed being mechanically pressed at low temperature to extract the oil, which is then filtered and bottled ready for sale. Munns Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil is produced from the first pressing of the seed, thereby retaining the full flavour and goodness of the seed.
It contains no additives or preservatives what so ever.
It is the gentle extraction process that makes Munns Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil different from the mass produced rapeseed oil that is commonly used nowadays and which is often extracted from the seeds using high temperature/ chemical extraction processes, coupled with very high pressure pressing that reduces the quality of the finished oil.
Health Benefits
Munns Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil can be used in much the same way as olive oil. It is a recognised fact that olive oil has a reputation as a healthy oil. Up to now, what has not been widely known is that cold pressed rapeseed oil is substantially healthier than olive oil. It has the added benefit of being locally grown, without the need to be globally transported, therefore saving on "food miles" as well.
Munns Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil has only half the undesirable saturated fat content of olive oil. Whilst having twice as much of the desirable omega 6 and about ten times the amount of the desirable Omega 3. The sodium (salt) content is zero.
Both Omega 3 and 6 belong to a group of essential compounds known as polyunsaturated fatty acids. These compounds are needed by the body but cannot be made by it, therefore they have to be taken in sufficient quantities through dietary intake.
When taken in the correct proportions, these fatty acids have been associated with many health benefits, such as reducing cholesterol levels and helping to reduce heart disease. Omega 3 has been shown to help brain and eye tissue development.
Modern thinking by nutritionalists seems to favour a ratio of 2:1 Omega 6 to Omega 3 within our diets to achieve maximum combined benefits of the two compounds. It is thought that this ratio replicates what was consumed by our "hunter gatherer ancestors" throughout the centuries. This diet however often consisted of substantial quantities of oily fish which kept the levels of Omega 3 high. Nowadays the ratio is nearer 10 or 20:1. The ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 in Munns Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil is about 2 : 1 replicating the ideal ratios.
The Future is Golden
The popularity of cold pressed rapeseed oil is set to soar as more people come to recognise the health benefits and quality when compared to olive oil. We believe that Munns Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil will quickly become a favourite with the discerning chefs of Cambridgeshire and beyond, as it establishes itself as the really healthy local option.
